AusRegistry International - Major Projects
.ae Registry
In November 2006, AusRegistry International (ARI) was engaged by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of the United Arab Emirates to provide consultancy services to assist in the review of the framework, governance and administration of the .ae domain.
On completion of this consultancy, it was decided that the TRA would develop a new administrative, policy and technical framework and that a Registry software vendor would be required to provide the technical portion of this work.
After a thorough tender process ARI signed a contract with the TRA in June 2007, making the company the official vendor of Registry Software for the .ae domain.
AusRegistry International will also provide customisation of the Registry software to meet the TRA requirements and training for TRA staff in order to manage the Registry Systems.
The new .ae framework will 'go live' on Sunday the 3rd of August, 2008.
.aeDAThe .aeDA was established as a department of the TRA in late 2007. It will be the Regulatory Body and Registry Operator for the .ae domain name.
The .aeDA will be responsible for the setting and enforcement of all policy with regard to the operation of the .ae ccTLD as well as overseeing the operation of the Registry System. The .aeDA's role is to:
- Develop and execute policy
- Grow, develop and market the .ae namespace
- Accredit and manage .ae Registrars
- Educate the public, delivering and promoting the .ae domain name
- Facilitate the .ae Dispute Resolution Policy
- Represent .ae at International Forums
As the .aeDA has been formed by the TRA, a federal government department, the .aeDA will continually strive to maintain best practice for the administration of the .ae ccTLD and will administer the .ae domain in a fair and transparent manner.
Changes to the Technical Operation of the .ae ccTLD
The .aeDA will be implementing changes to the ae ccTLD in order to bring it in line with international best practice. This will result in several changes, as currently UAEnic (United Arab Emirates Network Information Centre) handles all aspects of the domain name process. The .aeDA will be introducing the 'Registry - Registrar Model' into the .ae ccTLD, to provide clarity of the roles within the industry, and to introduce competitive pricing, and service models for Registrants.
