ENUM Trial Registry

In May 2005, AusRegistry International was chosen by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA), to run and operate the Registry for the Australian ENUM Trial.

ENUM is the mapping of telephone numbers to domain names using Domain Name System (DNS) based architecture, in order to help facilitate such services as Voice over IP (VoIP). It allows network elements to find services on the Internet using only a telephone number. ENUM is simply the convergence of Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN) to Internet Protocol (IP) Networks - phone numbers converted to Internet addresses. This allows end users to link one or more communications services to their telephone number, providing a single point of contact for services such as Voice over IP (VoIP), email, presence and instant messaging.

ENUM is also the title of RFC 2916, the approved protocol document that discusses the use of DNS for the storage of E.164 numbers and the available services connected to an E.164 number.
